Inspiration comes in different forms. We can be inspired by people, who we may personally know or not, by the things we see, stories we’ve read, places we’ve been to, and what-not. Although the direction, choices and decisions we make in life solely depend on our own goals and wishes in life, inspiration is definitely a helpful factor for us to make the right ones.
In fashion, inspiration seems to work in a circular motion. Designers get inspired and come up with awesome collections, which fashion editors, stylists use as reference for the next editorial which is worthy to be included in the glossies or runways. Then readers, fashion-savvies who already made a name for themselves in the fashion scene would either get the real-designer-thing or use it as peg for their outfit or their next purchases. After which, the ordinary citizens of the world who are as well interested in fashion would be inspired by all these.
We really do not know the origins of the designs that we see today, or from what, where, or whom the people we look up to get their inspirations for a jaw-breaking set of clothes from. But we do know that inspiration enable us to do the things we do, to wear the clothes that we wear. Through creativity and putting your own individuality, one can always come up with her own style, her own fashion genius, which, who knows, someone might also take inspiration from.
In the digital age, fashion inspirations are easier to find. Here in the country, we do have a lot! I rarely visit international sites cause why go somewhere else when you can take it from the people in your own land. One of the most effective ways to get influenced in fashion is through fashion blogs. Fashion blogging has been going on for quite sometime now, but I’ve been exposed to it only a couple of years ago - 2007 to be exact. During that time, I barely have blogs that I regularly read. But come 2008-2009, I discovered a few interesting blogs that I still read up to this date.
And for my first entry, I present to you my TOP TEN BOOKMARKED FASHION BLOGS!
These are basically the blogs that I do visit everyday, and know the URLs by heart. (Talk about being a fan-girl!) These are the people, in my own opinion, who will make the Philippine Fashion Industry more prosperous, even global.
Disclaimer: I made the list based on my own, personal opinion. Because I can relate to these bloggers the most, and they channel, in a way, my own style. List is made in random order.
1) TRICIA WILL GO PLACES - Of all the blogger’s in the list, Tricia Gosingtian is the only one that I’ve met in person - as of press time. I invited her to be a guest speaker in one of the events that I organized at my previous work. What you see is really what you get. Whatever her pictures show, that’s how she really is in person - pretty and sweet!
Visit her blog: http://triciawillgoplaces.tumblr.com

Why I love her style: Her style isn’t overwhelming, and I mean that in a good way. She wears clothes that I can say, I’d wear. She changes her choice of color palettes and style from time to time, but manages to maintain her identity.
What I love about her blog: Although it can be labeled as a fashion blog, she does feature different things such as beauty reviews, her recent photography stint, time with friends and even the places that she most recently went to.
2) CAMILLE TRIES TO BLOG - Camille Co started blogging only this year, but I was already an avid visitor of her online shop Coexist way back. Amazing is the fact she’s only been blogging for months and yet, she already has 30,000++ blog hits! I’m not surprised though, what with her sophisticated style, modelesque bod, and add up a very pretty face, it’s no wonder people, such as I, love her!

Why I love her style: Effortlessly chic. That’s the way I see her. Maybe it’s her body or height, but I love how the clothes fit her like a glove, and that everything just looks good on her! She tries to experiment once in a while by changing her look - adding more spunk - but still ends up sweet!
What I love about her blog: I appreciate blogs with simple and clean layouts. I guess that’s one trend in fashion blogging since bloggers do want their photos/posts as center of the attention. Camille’s photos make me green with envy, since like what I said earlier, her outfits looks famazing all the time.
3) FASHION ATE THE WORLD- Another young achiever in the fashion world is Tin Iglesias, and if we’ll talk about inspiration, better get it from someone like her. What got me into following her was actually one of her drawings/illustrations! I remember seeing one of her drawings, and instantly fell in love with it. I even regarded it as a potential tattoo design! I saw her in an event last April, but was too shy to say hi, and unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me.

Why I love her style: Confident & Experimental. If I were to take my judgment as to why I like her style based on what I see in her photos, I’d say that I like her because she gives off a confident aura that every girl should possess. Apparently, through this confidence, she’s not scared to experiment, be it in terms of accessorizing or in putting together an outfit in general. And it translates not just in pictures but in person as well when I saw her strut the runway!
What I love about her blog: Tin is way younger than me, and seeing her journey towards becoming a true success in the fashion world inspires me a lot. She’s one of those people who you may not know personally but contributes to your energy in achieving a goal, of making things happen, cause if she can do it, so can all of us.
4) LITTLE MISS DRESS UP - A joint blog by friends Rosanna and Hanna. They have different styles, Hanna dresses up with more mature pieces that scream elegant and put-together all the time, like how I’d probably describe Blair Waldorf’s style. On the other hand, Rosanna’s style is more laid-back, experimental, vintage yet trendy.

Why I love their style: Hanna’s style makes me want to own more sophisticated pieces of clothing. And her love for jewelry amazes me. But I’d say that I connect with Rosanna’s style more. I love how she tweaks her outfits and play with trends.
What I love about their blog: Seeing two fashionable people showcase their different styles in one blog is a eason enough to love it! Aside from that, it’s also great to be taken to other parts of the world, through Hanna’s personal stories/travels, while Rosanna’s outfit posts wow me everytime.
5) THE CAPRICIOUS CLUB - The first fashion blog that became part of my regular blog-read. Owned by then News Reporter, Bestie Konisis. The year was 2008, and I was head-over-heels with tights, and seeing Bestie’s posts that time, it inspired me big time. Well, that stays true up to now sans the tights.
Visit her blog: http://thecapriciousclub.blogspot.com
Why I love her style: Bestie adapts trends and always put something new into it. She sees to it that she puts her identity in her outfits despite the obvious influence that she gets from other people. And it’s admirable. She isn’t brand conscious and makes a thrifted piece look like it’s worth thousands! Lastly, I love the vintage appeal of her outfits.
What I love about her blog: For some reason, I feel a strong connection with this blog. Ever since I started reading it, I feel like I can relate to her or something. Weird but true. I love how it motivates me to utilize the things that I have, like for example, an old blouse matched with a pair of good jeans, plus the right accessories will make you feel like you’re wearing something brand new. It’s all about proper mixing and matching.
6) PARADIGMA - Patricia Prieto’s blog is one of the most recent additions to my blog-reads. Great style + beauty + fashion knowledge (she’s a fashion design student) = one awesome blog. I discovered her through Tricia, when she announced the new Brand Ambassadors of F21, and loved her ever since. All I had in mind was “I want to be like her.” (Not on being a BA, but on being stylish)

Why I love her style: If there’s a pattern in my choice of fashion bloggers, you would probably notice that I fall for girls who look good and dresses up great without even breaking a sweat. Those who seem to do it effortlessly. And that’s something that I see in Patricia. It’s like she can wear a white tee, jeans, and sneaks and still look like she came from a page of a mag.
What I love about her blog: Her blog isn’t exclusive to just outfit posts. She lets us peek into her life, places she visited, random things. Despite the almost 40K hits in her blog, for some unknown reason whenever I read it, it doesn’t feel like I’m reading an internet celeb’s blog, it actually feels like i’m reading a diary of a friend.
7) KONICHIWEAR - I discovered Dominique Tiu’s blog the same time I discovered Tricia’s, and I became a fan instantly. First of all, I love the quirky title. Second, Doms is so easy on the eyes and I love how simple her style is. And last but definitely not the least, I love the way she writes.
Visit her blog: http://konichiwear.com
Why I love her style: Doms’ style is more on the gentle, mature-side. Based on what I see on her posts, she chooses clothes that suits her and not just succumb to the latest trends, for the sake of.
What I love about her blog: I visit Doms’ blog not just because of the outfit shots that she posts. Truth is, it’s more on what I read than what I see. For me, Doms is one of the best blog writers in the country. I simply love her writing style. I love that her blog is informative, not just regarding brands thru product reviews or the like, but even on things that she thinks other people would be interested/need/must know.
8) FASHIONISTA FORTUNE COOKIE- Lloyda Lim is one of my major influences when it comes to shoes. She was one of the people who convinced me that shoes play a vital role in completing an outfit through her blog. I discovered her blog thru Bestie’s.
Visit her blog: http://fashionistafortunecookie.blogspot.com
Why I love her style: If there’s one thing that I learned from Lloyda, it’s that your shoes can make or break your outfit. I don’t know how she manages her towering heels, but she inspires me when it comes to that. Also, as a young mom, she encourages me to still be fashionable.
What I love about her blog: I love her blog because it made me unleash my inner Imelda. Aside from that, her blog feels so real. She effortlessly impresses her readers.
9) ONLY THE MARVELOUS - One marvelous blog indeed. Owned by Gliterrati’s other half, Joanna Ladrido, this blog became one of my blog-reads last year. I got hooked because of the uniqueness in Joanna’s style. And the way her posts are patterned, made and titled gives her blog its own appeal and identity.

Why I love her style: More than unique, Joanna’s style is fierce. I love how she puts her clothes together. It wows me all the time. Also, I actually like that she’s all dolled and made-up everytime!
What I love about her blog: As mentioned above, the layout of her posts - pattern and titles - got my attention, together with the her fierceness. I love her blog ‘cause you can see the passion in it. You also see that she uses her style as a form of expression. And I guess that’s what’s important, cause I consider fashion bloggers as artists in their own rights.
10) BREAK MY STYLE - Laureen Uy can be considered as one of the most famous names in the Philippine Fashion today. Well, it probably runs in the blood, since her siblings are two of the biggest names in the fashion world as well. I’ve heard of Laureen thru a college colleague. And when she made a blog, I knew I’d be an avid reader.
Visit her blog: http://breakmystyle.com
Why I love her style: If there’s someone who never fails to impress, wow, and make me drool, it’s Laureen. Her choice of clothes, most especially accessories, is unpredictable yet always amazing.
What I love about her blog: I love her blog ‘cause seriously what’s not to love? It’s a constant source of motivation to be at my best.
These girls are already at the top of their game. For sure, they have different stories on how they reached their status - as internet celebrities. Regardless whether they took the hard way or just breezed to the top, they’re undoubtedly inspiring in their own unique ways.
So, I say, let’s all be inspired and start being as fab as these girls! :D
