Tacky-ness is next to ugliness

Wow, what a lame attempt of coming up with a creative title! Sarreh. Haha

As you may have noticed by now (if you’ve been following my blog), I am sort of a fail-safe dresser. I choose clothes that are comfortable. Something that fits me well and would flatter my un-toned body. Clothes that won’t show the things that have to be hidden. Although I don’t mind showing off some skin, my legs in particular, I am not the type who would wear a skirt that with little movement would show my cycling shorts (cause I always wear cycling shorts) or something to that extent. I also don’t wear tops that would give too much of my non-existent boobs.

Emma Watson was once quoted saying that she knows people want to see her wear skimpy and sexy clothes. And according to her, it’s just not her, she won’t flaunt everything. She’ll leave some things to the imagination.

I sort of have the same principle. I don’t want to be caught wearing something tacky. However, I don’t really know how to identify what’s tacky and what’s not. I may find a dress with bold print, say the one I’m wearing in this photo, tacky. But on a second thought, I’m not a hundred percent convinced that it really is. :-/

But since on this day, I sort of feel it’s a bit tacky to wear this as is (although I’ve worn this as is a few times already), I decided to wear it over a cream bell-sleeved top.

I also wore my go-to flats instead of heels so that it would look casual and comfy at the same time. Definitely far from looking tacky.

Dress - Bazaar
Bell-sleeved top - Pink Soda
Flats - Liberte, Robinson’s Department Store
Bangles - Amanda’s Place
Earrings - Forever 21

Here are some suggestions on how to make tacky/too sexy/too liberated piece of clothing look decent and fashionable:

1) Wear a cover-up or blazer to hide some skin.
2) Balance out your look. If the top that you’re wearing is too revealing, you can either wear a blazer to cover up the upper part of your body, or you can wear tights or leggings to cover your legs.
3) Accessorize well. Excessorizing (like how Laureen Uy puts it) is not a bad thing. However, you should know when to do it.
4) Carry your clothes well. A lot of fashion experts emphasize the importance of ‘wearing your clothes well’ and not let your clothes wear you. Work it!

Anyway, just want to share with you, a funny story behind these photos. My friends Anna and Ivan are the ones who take my outfit photos these days. During this time, when they were taking my photos, we didn’t realize that I was wearing my company ID. We were almost done with the set when it suddenly occur to us! So, the ending, we had to retake most of the shots. AND…unfortunately, the ones where I’m wearing my ID looks better than the ones without. Tsk. But anyway, I’m posting the first set here just cause I find them ‘sayang’. Haha. Although I didn’t bother editing them. :)

Oh, one more thing, I am planning to do a VLOG soon. But I need specific topics or questions to answer. I do have a few in mind already, so I might work on them first, but I’d love to hear your suggestion. If you want me to talk about ANYTHING, just send me a PM here, or email me at styleattempt[at]gmail[dot]com. You may also visit Style Attempt’s page, and leave a note at the wall. :) I’ll choose a person or two from those who’ll suggest things and give her/them a little something. ;)
